We had a terrific turn out for our first grandparent day. Over 300 family members were able to attend! Our families in room 105 were able to reminisce with some items that we had from the past, enjoy free popcorn, and do an art project. Everyone was able to do an activity on our interactive board as well. It was a great day to celebrate with those we love!
I am so glad to hear that you will be one of Mrs. Mink's Mustangs this year! We are going to have a great year together. I have been spending my summer break vacationing with my family, helping out with the Clio Mustang Marching band, reading, learning new things about teaching, and preparing for this upcoming year. I love teaching, so reading about education is one of my hobbies. I also love to read for just pure enjoyment. This summer I reread all of my favorites from when I was in Middle School. I read the Little House on the Prairie series, several Helen Keller chapter books (she is one of my favorite people in history), the Wrinkle in Time series by Madeline L'Engle, and several others. It was so fun to fall in love with the characters again! We will spend a lot of time this year talking about books and why we choose they books we read. Leave me a comment and let me know what you've been reading this summer! I have been busy this August preparing the room for all of our learners and getting ready for our open house. I'm sure you'll find room 105 a great place to learn and grow! Here is a little tour of our room...... and see you soon! We have been reviewing parts of speech in literacy lab. Nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs have all been covered. To help practice this we have been playing Mad Libs. The students LOVE this! If you don't have any Mad Libs at home, here is a site with FREE Mad Libs for kids. Try some today! Print them out and take them while you wait at a restaurant! Or driving up north this Memorial Weekend! Unplug and enjoy! http://www.glowwordbooks.com/kids/madlibs/
We had our last visit from our teacher from the Flint Institute of Arts today. After drawing them with oil pastels, we painted jellyfish using watercolors. We learned about warm and cool colors and used that new information to paint our masterpieces. This has been a tremendous opportunity for our students. We have really enjoyed it!
Lots of love at the Valentine's Day party! We had a great time making our own ice cream sundaes, making a scrap book for our valentines, and playing some fun games. Thank you to everyone for donating supplies to make this day such a success for all of our students! The art instructor came to visit us this week to finish up our mustangs. The students enjoyed learning about different art techniques like tearing paper and perspective. The finished products look fantastic! We had a terrific time on our field trip to the Flint Institute of Arts. We were awarded a grant as a school to partner with them for 4 art lessons per grade level. They come out to Lacure and have three lessons in our classrooms, then we have the opportunity to visit the museum and do an art lesson there. Our boosters pay for us to extend this and take a pottery class while there. It was such a great experience for us! The theme this year is Animals. We were able to tour some of the museum and see some of the examples of animal artwork. If you'd like to tour the entire museum with your family, Saturdays are free for everyone. It's a great chance to expose your children to some of the outstanding artwork we have right here in our county. Thank you to everyone who helped make this a successful day for our Mini Mustangs! We had a great time at our Christmas party! Many participated in the first annual Crazy Christmas shirt day. We decorated cookies that rivaled anything I've seen on Cupcake Wars. After a quick game of pass the Christmas tree, we headed to the sing-a-long. A wonderful time! Thanks to everyone who helped make this day a success! Merry Christmas and Happy 2016! Our annual trunk or treat and costume parade was a terrific hit this year! I can't remember how many years it's been since we were able to have it outside! It was fantastic! Students were able to take home a huge bag of candy, popcorn, and a free book! The treats sent in by families for our class party were delicious! Thank you to everyone who was able to help out. We had a great day! Happy Halloween! |
